The National Aquarium in Baltimore is a public aquarium located at 501 E Pratt St. in the Inner Harbor area of Baltimore, Maryland. It was opened in 1981 and was constructed during the urban renewal period of Baltimore. The aquarium has an annual attendance of 1.6 million to see its collection of 16,500 specimens of 660 different species. Particular attractions include the dolphin display, rooftop rainforest, and central ray pool, and multiple-story shark tank. The National Aquarium in Baltimore is widely considered to be one of the best in the United States, if not the whole world. Coastal Living named it the #1 aquarium in the U.S. in 2006. Also in November 2006, the National Aquarium won a Best of Baltimore award for "Best Over Priced Destination for Families."

The National Aquarium's mission is to inspire people to enjoy, respect, and protect the aquatic world. Throughout the year, visitors may tour the Aquarium for up to 1½ hours after the ticket center closes. The hours of operation are Monday - Thursday 9am- 5 pm, Friday 9am - 8 pm, Saturday 9 am -6 pm, and Sunday 9am- 5 pm.

The Aquarium's 4-D Immersion Theater combines the visual drama of a 3-D film with a variety of sensory effects that are built into the theater seats and the theater environment. Please note: The 4-D Immersion Theater contains theatrical lighting including strobe lights. Please use discretion if your child is easily startled, or if you have medical conditions related to your back.

Dive beneath the surface with the Aquarium's Immersion Tours. The expert guides there help you experience life at the Aquarium from an insider's perspective. You'll discover a world behind the glass that is fascinating and full of surprises. Tours are also a great way to celebrate a special occasion.

For the safety of visitors and to provide the best experience, all bags, backpacks, and packages are subject to inspection prior to entering the Aquarium. Re-entry may require additional screening. Please be aware, these entrance security procedures may result in slight delays while entering the Aquarium.

Consider leaving your stroller at home or in the trunk of your car. Because of the escalators and moving walkways inside the Aquarium, strollers cannot be used inside. If you do bring a stroller, Aquarium staff will store it for you and provide a backpack or frontpack child-carrier. The higher vantage point will also provide your children with a better view of many exhibits.

Enjoy a smooth and safe trip through the Aquarium. Several escalators and moving walkways are throughout the buildings as a convenient way to travel from floor to floor. Please use caution when wearing flip-flops, open-toed shoes, and/or rubber-soled footwear. Stay alert, and be sure to remain clear of the sides, and step over the comb plate at the end of an escalator or moving walkway.

The Aquarium offers convenient services for special-needs visitors. A drop-off circle is located in front of the Aquarium on Pratt Street, and an accessible entrance is located just beyond the main entrance. Blind or deaf visitors may use audio tours and scripts of public presentations. Additional resources are available, and with advance notice, they will make special arrangements to accommodate all visitors' needs.
