Sis. Carter retired from the Social Security Administration after twenty one dedicated years of service. Mary states that after retiring, she did not want to "just sit at home" so, she found out about a program at the Baltimore Experience Corp. where seniors can volunteer to work. She was there for four years. After that period, she worked with children in elementary grade school. The energetic Mary found out about another program called the Foster Grandparent where she started out working with the juvenile department as a mentor. After excelling there, she was moved to the Westport School where she assists the teacher with the pre kindergarten class she is currently working with. Mary states that she thoroughly enjoys what she does there.

Mary is very active at the Morning Star church she loves. She is the treasurer of the choir, a member of the Building Fund, where she is secretary, the Pastor's Aide, the Board of Christian Education, and the Missionary Society. Mary has worked with the Vacation Bible School for many years. As a matter of fact Mary can be found working at the "Star" wherever there is a need. Mary loves her God and her church and shows it; and her church loves and appreciates her.
