Rev. David Michael Hamm fondly called "Bunny" was born
December 5, 1954 at Baltimore City Hospital in Baltimore City. His parents are
the late Rev. Dr. Daniel Webster and May Stith Hamm. Both parents were active
members of Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ before their deaths in the
1980's. His mom being a nurse was a member of "the Star's" Lottie Henry Nurses
Unit.
To educate the inner compelling to preach the Word of God, Rev. Ray, Jr. began seminary in the fall of 2010 at Easton's Theological Seminary Baltimore Branch. He is readying himself for the spring semester to begin January 17, 2011. Please pray for him as he further equips himself to preach the gospel to a lost and dying world. He is looking forward to ordination in 2011. Pray for him and he will pray for you!
As a youngster, "Bunny "attended Pimlico Junior High School. Later he earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Baltimore City Community College. Currently he is a senior at Coppin State University working towards a Bachelor's degree in Social Work.
David, who is the proud father of Ghanicha T. Hamm 34 years old and Geri M. Hamm 28 years old, joined Morning Star on June 14, 1964 under the pastorate of Rev. Nathanial Wicks. He was at one time a member of the Sunday school, the usher board under the supervision of Alex Robinson and Mary Robinson and later under Lloyd C. Morse, Jr. He currently serves as an Associate Minister at Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ.
Rev. Hamm's favorite hymns are Peace Be Still by Rev. James Cleveland and How Great Thou Art by Mahalia Jackson. He says those hymns take him back to his roots because they influenced his parents while raising him. They were directed by their lessons of God's forgiveness, love, grace and mercy. This, he states, kept him safe and in his correct frame of mind.
His favorite Bible passage is Psalm 27 -
'The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
Rev Hamm says "Each and every day this scripture blesses, encourages, teaches, promises, and protects me".
In his spare time, David likes to fish and spend time with his family. New beginnings and recovery are of special interest to him. He truly enjoys giving back by helping and counseling others. In his words, "I am in fact fortunate to still be alive in spite of my past sins. God is the key to my life and He is indescribably good. My positive message to others is to keep God first, pray, believe, and have faith not allowing flesh and negativity to take control".
