![]() Why Read the Bible? The Bible is the greatest book that has ever been written. In it God Himself speaks to men. It is a book of divine instruction. It offers comfort in sorrow, guidance in perplexity, advice for our problems, rebuke for our sins, and daily inspiration for our every need. |
Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." John 8:31-32 RSV
But Jesus told him, "No! The Scriptures say, 'People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God." Matthew 4:4 NLT
Jesus replied: "If anyone loves me he will cherish my word; my Father will love him and we will come to him and make him our abode. He that does not love me neglects my words. Yet the word you hear is not my own but that of the Father who sent me." John 14:23-24 Rieu
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT
For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are. Hebrews 4:12 NLT
You should read the Bible because the Bible is the greatest book that has ever been written. In it God Himself speaks to men. It is a book of divine instruction. It offers comfort in sorrow, guidance in perplexity, advice for our problems, rebuke for our sins, and daily inspiration for our every need. The apostle Paul said, "study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth" (2 Timothy 2: 15). God has given us the Bible in order that we might know Him and that we might do His will here on earth.
You should read the Bible because the Bible alone truly answers the greatest questions that men of all ages have asked: "Where have I come form"? "Where am I going"? "Why am I here"? "How can I know the truth"? For the Bible alone reveals the truth about God, explains the origin of man, points out the only way to salvation and eternal life, and explains the age-old problem of sin and suffering. The great theme of all the Bible is the Lord Jesus Christ and His work of redemption for mankind (Salvation through Jesus Christ). The person and work of Jesus Christ are promised, prophesied, and pictured in the types and symbols of the Old Testament.
There are seven great things that reading and studying the Bible will do for us:
The Bible discovers and convicts us of sin.
The Bible helps cleanse us from the pollutions of sin.
The Bible imparts strength.
The Bible instructs us in what we are to do.
The Bible provides us with a sword for victory over sin.
The Bible makes our lives fruitful.
The Bible gives us power to pray.
You should read the Bible because the Bible is spiritual food. Just as your physical body benefits from nutrients in the food you eat, your spiritual life benefits from consistent Bible study. So we want to read and study the Bible, the Word of God, that we may hear God's voice personally and that we may grow, know how to do His will and to live a better Christian Life.
