Mission

The church's mission is the Great Commission, "go ye therefore, and teach all nations…teaching them to observe all things…found in Matthew 28:19-20. We, as leaders are to take the Good News to all parts of the world.

About Us

Since 1890, the Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ has been blessed to have only 4 great pastors; our founder Rev. Robert R. Winn, Rev. George Jacob Garnett, Rev. Nathaniel H. Wicks and our current pastor Rev. Dr. Samuel Ray. We have also been blessed to have many gifted Christian members who have made the transition to glory and now we give thanks to God for our present leaders that are providing leadership to the life of the Body of Christ.

In 1968, Rev. Samuel Ray was deeply concerned about the need for a more closely knit church; his vision was to develop a realistic, workable plan that would increase our church growth. It was at this time that the foundation was laid for the Board of Christian Education to be implemented at the Star. We became an active member of the American Baptist Churches, USA; we were already members of the National Progressive Baptist, USA, and the United Baptist Missionary Conference of Maryland, Inc. We give thanks to the late Deacon Lillie Hines who was a dedicated Chairperson in the formative years.

God has a purpose for our church and we are called to make disciples. It is only when we as leaders become excited and enthusiastic about our mission (purpose) then we will be able to do the work of God. A people without a vision will perish. We have to believe that God will supply our every need. We must be constantly in prayer to know God's wisdom so that we can have the courage and faith to do it!

We are to be understanding and supportive of our Pastor's leadership and his vision. We are also expected to cheerfully, in Christian love to work with other boards and committees to develop programs which will help to fulfill God's purpose for our church. We should make every effort to follow Jesus by being of service to others without expecting something in return. Jesus never gave up on us, but He saw what we could be and His spirit reached down and touches us with the gift of leadership.
