In Remembrance Of...
Deacon James L. Gilliard - Deacon James L. Gilliard was born and educated in Hartwell County, Georgia and began a teaching career there. In 1963, he moved from Georgia to Baltimore, Maryland to assist his widowed brother with raising seven children. Mr. Gilliard joined the Morning Star Baptist Church during Reverend Nathaniel Wicks' pastorate and became affiliated with a number of ministries and choirs. Under the pastorate of Reverend Dr. Samuel Ray, Mr. Gilliard was ordained Deacon. Because of Deacon Gilliard's contributions to the church, its members and mankind in general, we pay tribute to him and remember his walk among us.

Bible Study
Be Ye Transformed: No Mind Change, No Life Change! - If Satan can influence our thinking by keeping us immersed in our own natural, emotional way of responding, he has got us and he really doesn't have to do anything else. We've played right into his hands. He knows he'll win when we're consumed in our own problems, our own trials and our own circumstances, because then we'll be confused, discouraged and depressed. And this will immediately quench God's Spirit in us, and none of His Light or Love will be able to shine forth.

Fireworks Safety and You - As we begin preparing for our summer fun, let's prepare for some summer safety as well. First, it is important to know that not all fireworks are legal in all counties. If you live in the city, the places in your area will sell fireworks that are approved for your area and the same is true for the county. Although fireworks are pretty and make a wonderful noise, if not handled properly, they can be extremely dangerous.

A Spelling Bee - Uncle John planned a spelling bee for some boys. It seemed like an easy thing to look forward to because the word he gave them to spell seemed easy. He did explain to them however that there were several ways to spell that word. Read on to see how it went.

Young Adults
Against the Tide - Natural thoughts, emotions and desires. The dictionary calls them "the movers of our soul" because what we think and feel is usually what we choose to follow. Both Christians and non-Christians alike struggle with these elements of life. Our thoughts stir up our emotions; our emotions influence our desires (or our choices); and, our choices produce our lives.

Christian Seniors
Bertha Fields - Our senior years mean a lot! So why not gather some information from someone who has walked the path of righteousness by setting the example that we need to follow in our years to come! I now introduce you to Bertha Fields. Bertha Fields has been a member of Morning Star since 1950. She joined under the leadership of the late Reverend Garnett. She recalls coming to the church on Sundays when there were no seats to be found in the house.
